Your Life After Bankruptcy

For the vast majority of people, bankruptcy means a better life — and liberation from unmanageable debts, creditor harassment, and the fear of repossession, foreclosure and garnishment.

Many people have irrational fears about bankruptcy. They mistakenly believe that by filing bankruptcy, their lives are finished, and that they will never be able to buy a car or a house or build a nest egg. Others fear the social stigma they imagine to be attached to bankruptcy.

At Broadwater Law Group, we can state with confidence that none of these fears are justified. In fact, for the vast majority of people, bankruptcy means a better life — and liberation from unmanageable debts, creditor harassment, and the fear of repossession, foreclosure and garnishment. And because so many people have filed bankruptcy in recent years, it no longer carries the stigma it once did.

Guiding You to a Better Life After Bankruptcy

Many of our clients worry about their credit rating and wonder if they will ever be able to get credit again. We are here to give them answers and advice about these issues before, during and after their bankruptcies. Some of the key things to remember about credit after bankruptcy include the following:

Your credit rating will begin to improve — As long as you continue making your Chapter 13 monthly payment on time or pay your bills after a Chapter 7, your credit rating can improve.

You will start to get credit offers again — Within a few months, you will begin to receive offers for credit cards. But be careful, because these will have very high interest rates and late fees.

You can buy a car — Here too, the interest rate will be high so be cautious. By shopping around, you may be able to obtain a better deal from another dealer.

Read the fine print before buying anything on credit — There are often hidden fees that come with a credit offer. If you have questions, schedule a free consultation with one of our lawyers.
