The Fair Credit Reporting Act

With the rapid increase in the use of electronic financial transactions, our society has seen a corresponding increase in the frequency of identity theft and other types of financial abuses. If someone has stolen your vital information and opened accounts under your name without authorization, you are not without rights and legal options. You may be entitled to compensation from those financial institutions that have violated your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act

Some of the most important rights enumerated in the Fair Credit Reporting Act include the following:

You have a right to obtain a free credit report — Given certain circumstances, such as the denial of credit based on information in the report, you are a victim of identity theft and you have placed a credit alert on your credit report, your file contains inaccurate information due to fraud and others. Everyone is also entitled to a free credit report once a year upon written request to the three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).

You have the right to dispute false information in your credit report — The problem here is that credit bureaus usually do not resolve the issue in a satisfactory manner. Our lawyers can represent you in litigation to correct the problem and seek compensation for you.

You have the right to damages if your rights under the act have been violated — Our attorneys vigorously represent victims of identity theft and corporate negligence, We will seek full compensation for you, including your financial losses and attorney fees, and whenever possible punitive damages as well.
